Nutrix Royal
Intense Restoring Lipid Enriched Range for Dry to Very Dry Skin
Well, I have been in the UK for several years now, working my way for a Masters in Pharmacy. Originally, I come from a country where the weather is hot and humid all day and all year long... in fact, keeping my skin moisturised was never an issue! *hmm i miss home now!! =(
Anyway, since my moving to the UK to further my studies, I've had a problem, since the very first week.... DRYNESS!!!
Oh it was awful!! my cheeks were so dry they cracked and applying ordinary off-the-shelf moisturisers you can normally get from drug stores didn't help me at all.... I've experimented on quite a few brands, including Nivea, Olay and even Clinique and Estee Lauder, the more high-end products, but unfortunately, they too, did not do the trick. Oh trust me it was hideous! I paid a great deal of money for their 'intense' ranges.. for example their 'richer' night creams or toners, or exfoliators... none worked for me... Actually, I end up paying more than what I'm currently paying for (Lancome) as I had to slab so much onto my face time to time just to keep it 'moist enough' to prevent cracking. It wasn't pleasant as well, especially when ladies like us *chickas* will have to put that occassional makeup on.... and I happen to be a liquid foundation user - not...pleasant....
Well, I'm not saying these brands ain't good, don't get me wrong!! They work fab for some people! Like my housemate, she find clinique works perfectly well for her! Well when it comes to these things, Its all down to you - your skin type.
Honestly, it never occur to me to seek Lancome for their skin range products in the first place. Reason? Pricey...! Well, at least for me...a student, it is quite an extravagant price to pay for. About 38 pounds for one 50ml tub - it ain't cheap. The reason why I started using Lancome, was simply because, I was desperate... desperate for a moisturised skin where you don't need to keep a tiny tub of moisturiser with you all the time and slab some on whenever you get the chance or when you feel your skin pulling to the side as the wind blows on your face, or when the weather is cold just to prevent it from cracking - which obviously hurts and gets worse as you can't apply moisturisers onto your poor torn skin.
I started off using the Hydrazen range. Which comes in tubs with pink lids on.
Now this one is a gift size.. but that's hydrazen range's color =D
They have this gorgeous scent, and silky milky texture that just goes oh so well on your skin... well i'm no lancome sales person and i don't receive no goodies from Lancome, but personally Lancome did such a good job for me I feel obliged to spread the good news to all dry skin ladies out there! Well yes, back to Hydrazen - if you have very dry skin, like me, you'll realize your skin almost looked as if it 'sipped' the moisture in (if you look into a mirror while applying it). It worked wonderfully well for me and therefore I've also decided to buy their Hydrazen Eye contour gel cream. Which also worked wonderfully well for me. As I often had to stay up late for assignments or exams, its anti-puffiness and anti-fatigue sure is a bonus to me.

(one dab is all you'll need for both eyes!! sorry for the pic! this is a used bottle =p)
They were on offer in a drug store in town. For the price of 35~40 pounds, equivalent to one tub of hydrazen, I got myself a moisturiser, a toner-which apparently is also an exfoliator, and a face wash! As broke as i always am, I chose to buy this set of skin care in hope that it'll work as well as my Lancome. But to my unfortunate find, all hell broke loose... My skin was not liking Clinique's range. I had awful rashes, hence a very sore red face... My skin peeled off and it hurt so badly at one point I couldn't talk or smile - not a single muscle on my face should move or I end up in pain... *I still have the pictures! Make no mistake they were introduced to me by their very own sales ladies who went through a short session on deciding what suits me best before proceeding to the counter. So if you're thinking I myself bought the wrong product for my skin - think again.
I had no choice but resorting back to Lancome. With my sore face, I went to their counter and asked for advice. The lady instantly introduced me to Lancome Nutrix Royal - the intense restoring lipid enriched range - exactly what I needed.
After just 2 days of application, my skin got 80% better... no joke!. The lipid ingredients definitely gave my skin nutrient to 'repair' the damage caused. It did felt like burning the first few applications, but it really worked.
I have, since then been using Nutrix Royal and am using my 4th tub now. =) The texture is not quite like Hydrazen - it does feel richer and 'packed'. I have rooted on this over hydrazen mainly because it possess the property of 'locking moisture' in, cause if you apply it onto your skin, unlike any other products i've tried before, there is a very thin layer of protective 'shield', which to some feels a little greasy (greasy is too strong a word) which never bothered me at all. You only need a small amount for a whole face application - and it stays moisturised for a whole day. Trust me on this - it does... unlike other moisturisers, your skin sucks in the juicy bit, but losses water throughout the day - at the end of the day? you still lose moisture! This protective layer that nutrix royal offers keeps as much moisture in as possible - and that's how I manage to keep my skin smooth without cracks, not even a single dry scale visible!
For those who use liquid foundation like I do? The 'greasy' texture i mentioned earlier was not a problem at all. What I usually did was moisturise my skin using Nutrix Royal, then applying my lancome liquid foundation - with or without a foundation brush - they work equally well.
Using a liquid foundation was a challenge for me when I was using Olay night cream back then. They always cake and some unsightly bits always comes off as my skin dries off, and my cheeks (beside my nose bridge) always show up with obvious bits of dry skin which was really frustrating. None of these problems happened when I was using Nutrix Royal. They blended well and they stayed on really well.. and it didnt feel like i'm wearing makeup on.
All in all, this little tub of heaven really did the trick for me, and it is definitely worth every bit of penny. If you're turned off by the price - think again.. you might end up paying more buying off-the-shelf products, slabbing excessive moisturisers on your face than paying for one of these. A tub of Nutrix Royal managed to last me from last September 2009 up till the end of January 2010, so that's almost 4 months for my day and night moisturising regime. so 38 pounds divided by 4? It's only about 9 pounds for 30 days application. Honestly, it isn't that expensive if you use it the right way at the right amount. If you're still in doubt? pop into any lancome sales counter and i'm sure they'd be more than happy to give you some samples to try out for and see the results for yourself!
Well, here I dedicate my first ever product review - which I hope can be of help to other poor souls with very dry skin like I do *boohoo*.
To moisturised skin~~!! xoxo!!

As written on the lil leaflet that comes together in the box:
Dry to very dry skin lacks specific natural lipids and nourishment. It feels tight and rough, fine dryness lines and cracks can even appear due to excessive water loss and imperfect skin barrier.
Based on Lancome's extensive knowledge of very dry skin, Lancome Laboratories have created NUTRIX ROYAL.
Thanks to an exclusive association composed, amongst others, of natural nourishing ingredients, this range hydrates and nourishes the skin.
INTENSELY RESTORES AND NOURISHES VERY DRY SKIN
Royal Lipideum is a new, unique complex enriched with natural, nutrient-rich Royal Jelly, vitamin Cg, Hazelnut extract and natural oils. Created to replenish lipids and essential fatty acids at the skin's surface, it helps to reinforce the skin's barrier function.
VISIBLY TRANSFORM VERY DRY SKIN INTO SUPPLE & SOFT SKIN
Very dry skin is also exacerbated by inadequate skin exfoliation. The Nutrix Royal range has been created to improve the skin's surface quality by enhancing the skin's natural exfoliation process. Roughness and scaly skin seem to disappear, helping to create the supple and soft feeling of ''new skin''.
RESULTS
A new, visibly supple, intensely comfortable skin.
Dryness lines appear to vanish, skin looks smoother and feels even to the touch.
